Tree work in Beerburrum
Memorial trees in the median, gums on the mountain
The Queensland Heritage Register lists the Anzac Avenue Memorial Trees as one pine, seven camphor laurel and five fig trees, planted in alignment along the centre of Anzac Avenue. Planting began in 1920 with a camphor laurel reportedly put in by General Birdwood. The register records that only 13 of the original 38 trees said to have been planted there remain. Pruning them or cutting into their roots is a heritage matter, cleared with the state before anyone starts, and a job on a block facing them keeps the truck, the rigging and the grinder out of the median.
The register's entry for the Glass House Mountains says scribbly gum is locally predominant in places, with the largest tract retained on Mt Beerburrum, and it lists Tindal's stringybark, pink bloodwood and smooth-barked apple on the mountain as well. These are tall, heavy hardwoods, so one leaning over a house on the forest edge is usually rigged and lowered in pieces rather than dropped in one fall.

Beerburrum questions
Trachyte under the stumps, fire at the forest edge
Is there rock under the ground near the mountain?
There can be. Mt Beerburrum is one of the volcanic plugs of the Glass House Mountains, and the heritage register describes it as composed of porphyritic trachyte. On the rises around it that hard rock can sit just under thin soil, so a grinder may strike stone before the stump is gone, and a tree with shallow roots over rock is easier for a storm to push over.
Does the bush around town burn?
It does. Queensland Places describes Beerburrum as a rural township with state forest on its eastern and western sides. The state's parks service has mapped a wildfire at the Beerburrum Woodford Road intersection, inside Glass House Mountains National Park. It covered about 6.8 hectares. On a yard that backs onto either forest, fallen debris is cleared, regrowth thinned and low branches taken up along the boundary before the dry months.
