Tree work in Verrierdale

Wet melaleuca ground and protected rainforest

Council describes Doonan Creek Environment Reserve as important coastal habitat, with vegetation running from coastal heath and scribbly gum forest to melaleuca wetlands. The council's levy register lists two Doonan Creek Environment Reserve parcels in Verrierdale, the larger of them about 250.5 hectares. Scribbly gums and melaleucas on that low, often wet ground tend to root shallow and wide, and a big one near the house can loosen in soil that stays soaked.

Council's environment levy has also bought 13 hectares in Verrierdale to protect critically endangered lowland rainforest and habitat for the Richmond birdwing butterfly. On a block that borders it, trees are felled away from the reserve, and nothing is left lying in the rainforest edge.

Verrierdale questions

Burns and boundaries on the Verrierdale Rise bushland

When does council burn its reserves here?

Its program usually burns between March and September, to bring fuel loads down. For the Verrierdale Rise Conservation Area and Environment Reserve, council lists a planned burn completed on 15 July 2025. A job close to that reserve is booked around burn days rather than on top of them.

Who owns the trees in the Verrierdale Rise reserves?

Council does. Its environment levy register lists the Verrierdale Rise North and South Conservation Areas and the Verrierdale Rise Environment Reserve, all under council management. Work on a back-fence tree starts by settling which side of the line it grows on, and limbs, debris and machinery stay off the reserve.

Is Eumundi Conservation Park burnt as well?

It is. The state's fire records show a planned burn of about 7.9 hectares there, lit in September 2025. On the rural blocks along that side, the trees nearest the house and sheds are kept free of dead branches, loose bark and low limbs that could carry fire toward a building.
