Tree work in Castaways Beach

Private yards against public bushland

The Coastal Communities code describes the suburb as predominantly detached housing for permanent residents, with no commercial or retail uses. So the trees are mostly in private yards, the owner arranges the work directly, and the gear goes in along the driveway or down the side of the house.

Some of those yards back onto council land. The council's register of open space includes the Driftwood Bushland Reserve on David Low Way and the smaller Flagship Natural Amenity Reserve, both in its care. Nothing growing on the reserves can be pruned or removed by the neighbours, so a quote covers only the trees inside the owner's boundary.

Castaways Beach questions

Planned burns in the park next door

Does the park beside the houses get burnt?

It does, in small planned patches. The fire history kept by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service records a burn in the Castaways protection zone, lit in May 2018. A much smaller one was lit in the park at Castaways Beach, adjacent to Flagship Court.

What does a burn next door mean for the yard?

It is a reason to keep the private side in step with the park. Dead timber, loose bark and low limbs close to the walls are taken away, and branches resting on the roof or gutters are cut back, so a burn or a bushfire has less to carry it to the building.
