Tree work in Wootha
One road in, on ground that slips
Policeman Spur Road is the only access road for residents of Wootha. Sunshine Coast News reported that a geotechnical assessment found a major landslip on it, and the road had to be closed to the public until it was rebuilt. Every truck, chipper and grinder has to use it, so a big job is booked around the road's condition, and after a wet spell the loads are kept to what the repaired slope can carry.
Heavy rain between February and May 2022 caused major landslips across the region, and council named Wootha among the worst affected areas. Its list of the region's major landslip sites includes Policeman Spur Road, Wootha. On a block that has moved before, the bank under a big tree is looked over for cracks and a lifting root plate first, and the machines keep off the slope until it dries out.
The two parcels council bought on McCarthy Shute Road, a former native timber harvesting site, take in deep rainforest valleys and high eucalypt ridge lines, with vine forest in the valleys and open eucalypt forest on the ridges. Where a private block has the same mix, tall ridge eucalypts and gully rainforest trees are usually taken down in sections on ropes, because the ground is too steep to drop them whole. Regrowth on old logging country can include multi-stemmed trees, and a weak union between two stems changes how the tree is cut.
Services in Wootha
Ridge gums, gully timber and protected land
Tree lopping
Heavy crowns on ridge-top gums reduced from ropes, so less weight hangs over the house.
Stump grinding
Stumps on a sloping block left until dry weather, when the bank can hold the grinder.
Tree removal permits
Trees on a nature refuge property, or on a boundary with council's reserve, looked into before a quote is written.
How it works
What happens after you get in touch
The council question is answered before the price, and nothing is booked until you have the quote in writing and have said yes to it.
- 1
Tell us about the tree
The suburb, what the tree stands near and what you would like done with it.

- 2
Someone comes to look
A tree contractor who covers your area sees the tree, the access and whatever is underneath it.

- 3
The council position is checked
Lot size, how close the tree is to the house and the mapping on the block decide whether an application comes first.

- 4
Quoted in writing
Scope, timber, stump and date set out on one page. Nothing is booked until you accept it.

Wootha questions
Nature refuges and council's reserve lots
Are any Wootha properties nature refuges?
Yes. Queensland Government mapping shows three nature refuges in the locality: Wootha Valley, about 9.48 hectares, Lyola, 17 hectares, and Koala Walk, 2.5 hectares. A refuge carries a conservation agreement that stays with the land, so tree work on one of those properties has to fit what the agreement allows, which is checked with the owner before a native tree is cut.
Who looks after the bush council bought?
Council. Two lots on McCarthy Shute Road in Wootha appear in its Environment Levy records as part of the Annie Hehir Road Environment Reserve. Both settled in December 2024, and where a block adjoins them, the trees on the reserve side are council's responsibility, so cut timber and machinery stay on the private side.
